Tiny Tars Foundation

Our programs

The Tiny Tars Foundation equips people with the skills, confidence, and resilience to become the captains of their own lives. We do that through two programs: a free health literacy tool anyone can use, and youth development work organised around three pillars.

Health literacy — LexiTar

LexiTar is a health literacy utility, developed as a Digital Public Good and maintained by the Foundation. It exists because of a gap almost everyone has met: you are handed a page of results about your own body, and you cannot read it. The terms are not in plain English, the numbers come with no explanation of what the range beside them is, and the appointment where you might have asked was fifteen minutes long and is over.

LexiTar closes that gap by translating, not by advising. It puts the terminology in your record into plain language, maps your biomarkers against a standard demographic reference range, compiles your readings onto one timeline so you can see what has moved, and helps you write down the questions you want to ask before you are in the room. It is free, private, and donor-supported. It gives no medical advice and is not a substitute for your own clinician — it is educational, and it stops where medicine starts.

It is free and it stays free, which is structural rather than generous: charging for a tool that reads someone's own health record would move it out of the educational category it is built to sit in. So there is nothing to sell and no tier to join.

Two ways in, depending on what you need

People arrive at this with two different problems, so there are two doors and you should take whichever describes yours:

Both doors lead to the same free tool and the same account. Signing up on either one puts you on the list for an invitation, and you will get one message with your link and one follow-up asking what it got right.

Youth development — three pillars

The term "Tiny Tars" is an affectionate, nautical nickname for young sailors just starting out on the water, and it is how we think about the people we work with. The programs below are organised around the three things a person needs in order to navigate their own life.

Strengthening Bodies

Promoting community wellness and safety. Fostering character and resilience through active play. Supporting access to nutrition and basic essentials.

Empowering Minds

Cultivating critical thinking through workshops and activities. Fostering self-efficacy and personal agency. Providing educational enrichment and life skills mentorship.

Nurturing Spirits

Cultivating empathy and social responsibility. Inspiring awe, wonder, and perspective. Building inner peace and mindfulness.
